Upper and Lower Eyelid Surgery

There is a great deal of accuracy in the adage “the eyes are the window to the soul.” However, to many, eyes are the first indication of aging. People regularly feel that they look old, worried, or tired. Additional complaints include the difficulties of the excess skin, “hooding”, bags, wrinkles, drooping eyebrows, heaviness, pain looking up, or the inability to apply makeup.

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a very technical procedure. It needs very special expertise to correctly identify, first, the special nature of the adverse eyelid features and, second, what must be done carefully and artistically to fix the problem. Utilizing a sequence of precision and skill, Dr. Raghu has done hundreds of these procedures with very natural results—producing a young and refreshed appearance.

Dr. Raghu Explains

Patients actually focus on their eye features and I really and truly understand why patients come to me with concern about their eyes. I am very careful, conservative, and exacting with everything I talk about and do in the field of eyelid surgery. Apart from the typical comments of aging so many come to me and concerned about the shape of the eye and eyelid. The anatomy of the eyelids is naturally complex. There are an amazing number of small anatomic characteristics all packed into a little space, a space that all must function absolutely perfect; otherwise, as small as one millimeter of abnormality can become more than apparent. The structures to deal with of the upper and lower eyelids are the very sensitive tendons for support, very thin skin, muscle, the fat pockets below the muscle, your eyeball, and the bony eye socket. All of these are very closely associated with each other, so these many various anatomic features must be carefully examined and addressed prior to your surgery. There are very particular techniques for specific eyelid issues, and I will describe and explain all of these to you. The surgery is safe and predictable. All of the stitches are little and removed in four to seven days. You can back to work in as little as one to two days and do some physical exercise within the first week. Eyelid Surgery may involve any of the following:

  • Blepharoplasty: This is the medical name for removing one or more of these: excess skin, excess fat, or excess muscle. The incision can be under the eyelashes or inside the eyelid.
  • Fat Grafting or Fat Repositioning: This is made if you have a deep “tear trough” or incision in the lower eyelid. I can add fat to this area or move some of your natural fat throughout the area.
Injectables: Restylane or Perlane can hardly be used to attractively fill in the tear trough.
Eyelid Peels: These are arranged at the same time to eliminate wrinkles.

This is an extremely special procedure, and it takes very specialized expertise to correctly identify, first, what is the nature of the eyelid features and then, second, what need be done carefully and artistically to fix it. I have this expertise in eyelid surgery, and I have performed a good number of these operations with very natural results that do not make you look like a different person, but rather, young and bright and refreshed. I will spend a great deal of time to discuss your anatomy, hearing to your expectations, and describing for you what your anatomy and tissues will carefully and predictably allow me to do.
